MAN SKULLE NOK HAVE VÆRET DER

The 17-year-old Tue has moved from the provinces to Copenhagen, carrying a harsh childhood on his shoulders. Evicted yet again and once more homeless, he scrapes by while trying to become a writer. Rootless and never having known a safe home, he crashes on the sofa of a friend and her award-winning architect mother—only to push well beyond the limits of what a guest can permit in his desperate search for somewhere to belong.

Man skulle nok have været der explores what it means to be a guest in the world—an examination of homelessness, rootlessness, social divides and poverty within Denmark’s welfare society.

The play stands on its own, based on the third volume of Thomas Korsgaard’s acclaimed trilogy about the boy Tue, which also includes Hvis der skulle komme et menneske forbi and En dag vil vi grine af det. Man skulle nok have været der received Denmark’s prestigious De Gyldne Laurbær literary prize in 2021.
